Cider Keg of Norfolk County to feed G20 leaders
One of Norfolk County's leading food suppliers, The Cider Keg of Vittoria, will be among the featured Canadian culinary offerings at the Toronto G20 Summit later this month.
     Leaders at the Toronto G20 Summit will be enjoying The Cider Keg's Sparkling Apple Strawberry Rhubarb Cider. The G20 is a gathering of leaders from the world's most advanced and emerging economies.
     "The Cider Keg is very excited to be featured at the G20 summit and to bring our award-winning Cider Keg sparkling cider to the international community," said Cheryl Peck, Manager of The Cider Keg.
     Uncle Tom's Farm Inc. and The Cider Keg is a fourth-generation family-owned farm business. On the family farm, the finest quality Norfolk County apples are cultivated and grown. Harvested at their peak, the apples travel from the orchards to the cider mill where the perfect blend of apples are combined to make cider.
     "With our inclusion in the G20 Summit, The Cider Keg is bringing the best of Norfolk County to the world stage," said Mayor Dennis Travale. "Norfolk County is very proud of the many innovative farmers and food suppliers that are located in our community."
     Norfolk County is Ontario's leading grower of apples, asparagus, cabbage, cucumbers, ginseng, peanuts, pumpkins, green onions and shallots, squash and zucchini, strawberries, sweet corn and sweet potatoes, according to Statistics Canada.

New Norfolk Map & Local Food Guide links smart-phone users to website


Participation by farmers and food suppliers in the latest edition of the Norfolk County Map & Local Food Guide has reached a new high, and now smart-phone users can scan the map and connect to Norfolk's website.

In this edition, 74 agriculture partners stepped forward to fund the full-colour comprehensive map in cooperation with the municipality, as part of the Tourism & Economic Development Division's Agriculture Marketing Program. Detailed information is provided on the map about the crops and food products grown and processed in Norfolk County. The map also highlights hiking trails, motorcycle and cycling routes, and other amenities.

Norfolk County is also one of the first communities to use a QR or Quick Response code on its publications. The QR code on the map links smart-phone users to norfolkfarms.com.

Norfolk County will sample and sell local food at Royal Agricultural Winter Fair

Participating Norfolk County Agriculture Partners are working together to promote, sample and sell Norfolk County foods at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto, November 6 to 15.

Among the foods of Norfolk County’s Agriculture Partners at the Royal Winter Fair will be British Baked Goods breads and pastries, Cider Keg sparkling apple ciders and preserves, Country Herbs, Kernal Peanuts products, Nature's Way Organics including popping corn, Pristine Gourmet Oils, Purple Daze Lavender products, and Stonkus Apiaries’ honey.

The Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show, Comfort Inn Simcoe and Norfolk County’s Tourism & Economic Development office are also helping to coordinate this exhibit, located in Hall A. Norfolk County will be personally inviting Toronto chefs and food journalists to visit the exhibit.

Tracey Winkworth of Belworth House in Waterford will be representing Norfolk County on the “Entertainment at Home” Food Stage at the Royal Winter Fair, November 10 at noon.

Norfolk County is Ontario’s leading grower of apples, asparagus, cabbage, cucumbers, ginseng, peanuts, pumpkins, green onions and shallots, squash and zucchini, strawberries, sweet corn and sweet potatoes, according to the latest Statistics Canada Census of Agriculture.

Norfolk County will also be participating in the Ontario Culinary Tourism Alliance Summit on November 9, which will also take place at the Royal Winter Fair.

Norfolk County, located on Ontario’s South Coast, is actively developing its agricultural and culinary tourism experiences with the assistance of more than 200 marketing partners. The initiative is also financially supported by the Ontario Market Investment Fund.

Norfolk County FlavourFest is a record-breaking success ... again!

 

Norfolk County FlavourFest was held at the Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show, October 6-12. This year, Norfolk County farmers and food producers at FlavourFest sold a record $39,719 in local food to avid fair attendees, up 20% compared to last year.

 

Thanks go to participating vendors, the Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show, and the Two Fairly Fat Guys, Norfolk County's Official Local Food Ambassadors.

Norfolk County wins Ontario Tourism Award for FlavourFest

At the Ontario Tourism Summit in Windsor on October 1, Norfolk County Tourism & Economic Development won the award for Best Tourism Marketing Campaign under $25,000 for the Norfolk County FlavourFest local food promotion.
